OTRD’s and Fiber Optic Devices
OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer) is an instrument for measuring an optical fiber. An OTDR can detect and locate faults in a fiber optic network. There are several models of OTDR’s available depending on features of the network. Measurement results can usually be saved and transfered on a PC. An OTDR is a basic tool for network installations.
Signal transmission in an optical fiber can simply be monitored with power meters and fiber identifiers. Faults and cleanness of connectors and adapters are inspected with a fiber optic microscope.
