Picture of Cameras

An industrial machine vision camera (either CCD or CMOS) consists of a light sensetive sensor (CCD array) that converts incoming photons into electrical signals. These then pass trough an A/D converter (analogue to digital converter), before being transferred out of the camera.

CCDs (Charge Coupled Devices) can be either frame transfer or full frame devices. Standard sensor resolution includes: VGA = 640 x 480, SVGA = 800 x 600, XGA = 1024 x 768 and SXGA = 1280 x 1024.
