Basler Vision Technologies is adding the new Basler scout light series to its product portfolio. This series consists of four new camera models based on Sony CCD sensors and Micron's popular MT9V CMOS sensor.

The Basler scout light is a special version of the successful and well-established scout series. It is aimed at very price-sensitive applications. The four camera models in wide VGA, XGA, 1.3 megapixels and 2 megapixels resolution feature a standard IEEE 1394b interface. All cameras are equipped with a standard C-mount lens adapter and are available with monochrome sensors. The cameras provide progressive scan readout and global shutter technology.

Aside from the trend towards GigE Vision, Basler still sees numerous applications where IEEE 1394b technology is beneficial, especially in applications with only one camera and short distances between camera and computer.

"The scout light camera series combines the successful and established IEEE 1394b interface standard with the most commonly used sensors at resolutions from VGA up to 2 megapixels and an extremely low list price starting at €399", explains Henning Tiarks, Product Manager at Basler Components.

The Basler scout light camera models come in a compact 29 mm x 44 mm x 73.7 mm industrial-proven housing with screw mount options for the IEEE 1394b connector. The cameras also feature one industrial proven input and one output through a Hirose-connector for tight fit.

Basler's free-of-charge pylon driver package supports both GigE and FireWireTM cameras. The Basler pylon SDK enables straightforward integration into existing applications via extensive documentation and code samples that can often be simply cut and pasted into customer applications. The pylon driver technology developed by Basler has been proven in several thousand camera installations over the last year and has gained a well-deserved reputation for low CPU load, robustness, and ease-of-use.

New aviator Area Scan Camera Series

Basler Vision Technologies is expanding the product portfolio by adding its new Basler aviator camera series with two new camera models based on Kodak's new KAI-01050 CCD sensor.

The Basler aviator series is a high speed mainstream camera. It exhibits superior image quality even at high speed image capture rates. The first models of this series feature 1 megapixel resolution (1024 x 1024 pixels) at 120 frames per second. The Basler aviator is equipped with Kodak's state-of-the-art CCD sensors. The cameras provide progressive scan readout and global shutter technology. They are an ideal fit for various applications like semiconductor manufacturing, electronics manufacturing, metrology and medical imaging.

"The aviator series pushes the speed barrier in the megapixel resolution arena to a new technical level while keeping the price extremely attractive", explains Henning Tiarks, Product Manager at Basler Components.

Combined with Basler's extensive Camera Link Interface and Kodak sensor experience, the Basler aviator offers excellent image results in linearity, dynamic range and noise level.

Additionally, Basler leveraged its tap balancing competence gained during the development of the Basler pilot series which also uses Kodak sensors.

The impressive image quality of the new aviator series will be measured and proven for each camera by automated EMVA 1288 sensitivity tests performed during production. The Basler aviator camera models feature a compact 62 mm x 62 mm x 57 mm housing. They are available in monochrome or color. Standard cameras are equipped with a C-Mount adapter but CS-Mount versions will also be available.
