The connecting up of dwellings using fibers to reach the Home, FTTH in business jargon, is progressing globally ever further. However in order to actually connect individual households or offices with fiber optics, a further distribution within the building is required: «Fiber In The Home» (FITH). A term that HUBER+SUHNER has been instrumental in helping to create with its system solutions.
Fiber optics represents more bandwidth, new services and consequently also convergence. The optical fibre distribution network within buildings represents a logical evolutionary step. A passive FITH network infrastructure also represents a huge investment in the future.
HUBER+SUHNER has developed not only new products based on market demand, but whole system solutions with which the cabling of buildings has become child's play.
Different aspects to high demands
The Media, Entertainment and Telecommunication industries are gradually coalescing with the Internet to become an unstoppable global information and communication phenomenon. To sate the ever increasing demand for bandwidth, building networks and systems are required to be more technologically advanced and have an ever increasing capacity.
During the development of the respective system solutions the most diverse requirements had to be considered: Installers want a simple, reliable and fast «plug and play» solution. Architects want a flexible solution due to the various demands of different construction projects. The residents place a high value on high quality, reliable and long lasting products that are also insensitive to contamination. The consumer does not care how the high level of bandwidth is achieved, as long as the connection is secure and long lasting. High demands that have to be combined and met.
Triple play Jack connector BLINK
BLINK (Broadband Link) is a new concept, tailored to the demands of the home environment. It forms the "Heart" of the HUBER+SUHNER «Fiber In The Home» portfolio. An integrated and combined laser protection and dustcover, in the connectors and adapters, increases the resistance to contamination and damage of the connector end faces. An automatic self disconnecting feature that releases when the connector is under excessive strain is just one of the features of the new connector concept. BLINK is also standardised according to IEC 61754-29.
The ideal «plug and play» solution: CLIK!
TV signals that are received by Satellite dishes on roofs are normally today transferred into the home using Radio Frequency connections. Four relatively thick cables of 5mm diameter each are required to achieve this. In addition they cannot be too long due to the high signal attenuation within the cables; they are therefore limited in the data rates that they can transfer.
What would be the result if you could replace these four previously required cables with a single fibre optic cable that has a diameter of only 3mm? One where the length has no effect because there is practically no attenuation and the bandwidth capacity is huge, easily capable of handling the enormous required data rates? This TV installers dream is already reality - thanks to the CLIK! - products of HUBER+SUHNER; which contain all the required components for Satellite TV cabling, from connectors to patchcords to adapters and splitters. In addition, the CLIK! connection cables can be installed without the need for specialised knowledge or tooling.
Optical outlet - OptiSocket 2
The new OptiSocket 2 is a small wall box that services the network of fiber optic cabling within the living space. The outlet is capable of handling from one to four jack connectors, as well as providing storage space for more than sufficient bend optimised fiber. The fiber management features have been created to provide a stable and long term fiber storage facility, which means that even after 20 years the fibers do not suffer from fractures due to fatigue. Further features of the OptiSocket 2 are the integrated laser protection; additional dust protection and a child proof dis-engage function to prevent unintentional dis-connections of the connecting cables.
With these system solutions HUBER+SUHNER meets the high demands and requirements - as well as providing high quality and reliability, while simplifying the installation.
